Apollo and Owensboro both handled business and secured wins on the day while Trinity lost a close battle at home.
AHS 55, Webster Co. 37
Apollo took care of business at home as they defeated Webster County 55-37.
The game started out evenly as the first quarter ended 17-17. The E-gals defense dominated in the second quarter as they held Webster to only a single point while they extended their lead with 14 points. With their 31-18 lead at halftime, AHS faced mounting pressure from Butler as they began to push back and outscored them 11-9. Still holding a comfortable lead, Apollo closed out the game with a final 15-point effort in the fourth, and they held Webster to 8 points to win the game at 55-37.
Jenna Dant had an impressive 29-point performance to lead the E-gals in scoring. Dant also had a high FT% after shooting 7 of 9 from the line. Jennifer Lee followed behind with 18 points on the night.
OHS 72, Hancock 46
Owensboro had four players score in the double digits in their big win after they took down regional opponents Hancock County 72-46.
The Lady Red Devils quickly established dominance as they shut down Hancock’s offense to only 8 points in the first quarter while they established an early 20-8 lead. As Hanock’s offense began to establish themselves in the second quarter with 19 points, OHS kept the momentum going with 4 threes and 22 points of their own to go into halftime at 42-27. Owensboro’s defense once again overwhelmed Hancock and held them to 8 points in the third quarter while extending their lead with another 3 threes and 21 points. After being outscored 13-9 in the final quarter, Owensboro closed out the win at 72-46.
Shalyn Sprinkles led the Lady Red Devils in scoring with 3 threes and 18 points. Unique Carter-Swanagan followed close behind with 3 threes and 15 points. Heleina John and Abby Sapp both scored 13 and 10 points respectively to complete the double digit club on the night.
Butler Co. 53, THS 46
Trinity hosted Butler County at home and fell short as they were defeated 53-46.
Both teams got their offense in rhythm early on as the first quarter ended with Butler leading 16-12. Trinity saw the lead inch away further from them in the second quarter after being outscored 15-10. With the score at 39-31 going into the third, both teams prevented each other from gaining a big advantage as THS outscored Butler by a single point at 9-8. Trinity mounted a final push in the fourth as they held Butler to 8 points in the quarter. However, Trinity ran out of time as their 15 points wouldn’t be enough to close the gap, and Butler took the win at 53-46.
The Lady Raiders had a scoring effort that spanned most of their team as 9 of their players contributed to the scoreline. Leading the charge was Kenzie McDowell with 11 points and 5 of 6 from the free throw line. Olivia Starks and Ella Morris followed close behind with 8 and 7 points respectively.
