Mildred Ann McCarthy, 87, of Owensboro, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born in Owensboro to the late Robert and Floella B. Lanham Hartz.
Mildred was a devout Catholic and a long-time member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. After becoming a widow at the age of 37, she stood strong as a devoted mother and raised six children. She enjoyed family get-togethers, U.K. sports, quilting, playing cards and tennis. Mildred worked as a church secretary for more than twenty years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. McCarthy in 1969; a great-grandson, Jesse Martin in 2017; sisters, Helen Hartz Riney and Lena Mae Hartz; brothers, Bobby, Donnie, Jimmy, John, Charles Edward, Joseph Vernon and William Carl Hartz
She is survived by children, Pam McCarthy Weafer (Dennis), Jeff McCarthy (Janice), Bridget McCarthy Calloway (Wayne), Robert McCarthy (Connie), David McCarthy (Lisa) and Kenneth McCarthy (Jeri Lynn), all of Owensboro; thirty grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; siblings, Alberta McCarty, Dean Hartz, Shirley Howard, all of Owensboro, Lena Aull of Philpot, and Martha Payne of Owensboro; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, February 27 at Blessed Mother Catholic Church.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM, with prayers at 7:30 PM, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. There will also be visitation Wednesday after 9:00 AM at the church. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
