Another night of district play saw Owensboro Catholic take down Apollo while Daviess County clinched a win over a tough Owensboro team.
OCHS 63, AHS 35
Owensboro Catholic moved to 3-1 in district play after beating Apollo 63-35. Apollo are now at 0-4 in district.
Owensboro Catholic had an early advantage at 10-7 going into the second quarter. The E-gals fought back and took a 1-point lead going into halftime after outscoring the Lady Aces 16-12 in the second quarter. OCHS came out and overwhelmed AHS in the third quarter by scoring 27 points along with 6 three pointers while holding Apollo to only 2 points. Karmin Riley made 3 threes and Delaney Cooper made 2 on their way to combine for 23 points in the third quarter. AHS got their rhythm back on offense in the fourth quarter, but it was too late to close the gap as Catholic won 63-35.
Riley led the Lady Aces in scoring with 15 points and 3 three pointers. Cooper also had 3 three pointers to go along with her 13 points on the night. Hailee Johnson scored 13 points with 2 three pointers as well.
The E-gals were led in scoring by Jenna Dant and Jennifer Lee who both had 11 points on the night. Taraya Thompson followed behind with 9 points.
DCHS 57, OHS 51
Daviess County came out on top in their close matchup against Owensboro as they went home with the 57-51 win. Owensboro’s district streak is snapped as they move to 3-1 in district while DCHS are now 2-2.
Both teams were evenly matched out of the gate as the first quarter ended 15-15. The Lady Panthers didn’t allow the Lady Red Devils any points in the second quarter while they accumulated a 16-point by halftime at 31-15. OHS were ready to make up for lost ground in the second half as they outscored Daviess County 16-8 in the third quarter. Both teams were determined to clinch the win as a scoring battle ensued in the fourth quarter. Despite being outscored 20-18 in the final quarter, Daviess County came out on top with the 57-51 win.
Zoey Beehn led the Lady Panthers in scoring with 19 points with Lily Hoagland and Kennedy Lane following behind with 16 and 13 points respectively.
Leading the Lady Red Devils in scoring was Heleina John with 2 three pointers as part of her 16 points. Unique Carter-Swanagan had 13 points along with 3 three pointers on the night.
