The Daviess County Public Schools Board of Education is beginning its search for a new superintendent to replace Matt Robbins, who will retire on August 1.

Robbins announced his retirement plans on January 5. On Tuesday, board members met with Quinn Sutton, one of the Kentucky School Board Association’s superintendent search consultants. Quinn is also the designated consultant for Owensboro Public Schools’ superintendent search.

Sutton laid out the process KSBA would use for the search, and DCPS will vote Thursday on whether or not to hire KSBA or go another route. KSBA would charge $7,000 if hired.

Sutton said the KSBA search typically takes place over the course of five meetings. The first meeting will have the board meet to lay out a timeline, including how long the job will be posted and specific qualifications they expect from the new superintendent, among other topics.

Typically, Sutton said, the job is posted for 30 days and is advertised nationally by KSBA. A screening committee would be formed consisting of the following members:

  • One board member (appointed by the board chair)
  • One principal (elected by district principals)
  • Two teachers (elected by district teachers)
  • One classified staff (elected by district classified staff)
  • One parent (elected by president of school PTOs)
  • One minority parent (only if a minority is not already selected in one of the above; elected by all parents)

After applications close, the committee will meet three times to narrow down the candidates and eventually recommend candidates for the board to interview.
