Daviess County and Owensboro picked up wins while competing in their respective tournaments, and Owensboro Catholic secured a win at home. Trinity suffered a tough loss against Edmonson County.
DCHS 42, Bullitt East 38
Daviess County traveled to Hancock County to compete in the House Insurance Coaches Vs. Cancer Shootout where they clinched a 42-38 victory over Bullitt East.
The game started out evenly as DC had a 1-point lead at the end of the first quarter. Bullitt took the lead going into halftime as Daviess County were held to just 6 points in the second quarter. The Lady Panthers came into the second half and held a tight defense to hold Bullitt to just 6 points in the third while they scored 16 to take the lead at 33-30 by the end of the third quarter. DCHS were able to hang on to their lead until the buzzer by outscoring Bullitt 9-8 in the final quarter. They walked away with the 42-38 win.
Leading the Lady Panthers in scoring was Lily Hoagland with 14 points and a high FT% after shooting 9 of 10 from the line. Kennedy Lane followed behind with 12 points and shot 5 of 6 from the free throw line as well.
OHS 65, John Hardin 38
Shalyn Sprinkles made an impressive 7 three-pointers in Owensboro’s 65-38 victory over John Hardin as part of the RDT Construction New Year’s Classic.
OHs commanded the lead early as they gained an 18-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. They held John Hardin to only 6 points while they extended their lead to 33-14 by halftime. John Hardin began to push back as they scored 16 in the third quarter. Sprinkles made her final 2 three-pointers as part of her 10 points in the final quarter to help OHS close out the game at 65-38.
Sprinkles’ 27 points and 7 three-pointers led the Lady Red Devils in scoring. A’lyrica Hughes was voted player of the game after recording 15 points along with 7 rebounds, 6 steals and 2 blocks.Unique carter-Swanagan scored 10 points on the night as well.
OCHS 65, McCracken Co. 54
Owensboro Catholic came out on top in a battle against McCracken County where they won 65-54.
Both teams came out strong offensively as McCracken had a slight advantage at the end of first quarter at 18-17. Catholic’s defense began to shut down McCracken as they held them to 10 points so they could take the lead at 35-28 going into halftime. The third quarter saw the Lady Aces extend their lead in the third quarter by outscoring McCracken 16-11. McCracken found more success at the basket in the final quarter, but OCHS went stride for stride to close out the game at 65-54.
Leading the Lady Aces in scoring was Delaney Cooper with 15 points and 3 three-pointers. Riley Karmin and Hailee Johnson both scored 12 points each and shot 100% from the free throw with Karmin shooting 2 of 2 and Johnson shooting 3 of 3.
Edmonson Co. 60, THS 30
Trinity fell 65-37 in their game on the road against Edmonson County.
Madison McDaniel had a three pointer to contribute to Trinity’s 9 points in the first quarter. After going into the second quarter down 17-9, THS were held to 5 points in the second quarter to trail 30-18 at halftime. Trinity struggled to get through Edmonson’s defense in the second half as they only scored 16 points across the third and fourth quarters. THS went on to be defeated 60-30.
Leading the Lady Raiders in scoring was Sarah Payne with 15 points. McDaniel had the next highest with 6 points.
