Daviess County are now on a 10-game win streak after taking down Breckinridge on the road, and Owensboro took care of business at home.
DCHS 63, Breckinridge Co. 50
Daviess County won their 10th game in a row after beating Breckinridge 63-50. The Panthers are now sitting at 13-3 on the season.
DCHS got things moving quickly as they held a 14-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the Panthers’ offense helped give them a nice 32-18 cushion at halftime after holding Breckinridge to just 8 points while they put up 18. Daviess County made sure to take care of their lead in the third quarter as they kept up the offensive as Breckinridge tried to push back with 13 points in the quarter. They closed out their 10th consecutive win at 63-50.
Leading the Panthers in scoring was Gage Phelps who had 21 points and a high FT% after shooting an impressive 10 of 11 from the line. Jonathan Moss followed behind with 17 and a high FT% as well as he shot 6 of 7 from the line. DeAaron Watkins scored 11 points on the night as well.
OHS 72, Webster Co. 59
Owensboro had a comfortable 72-59 win on their home court against Webster County.
Owensboro started with high intensity early on as Dayshaun Sanders’ 10 points helped them to a 23-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. Webster chipped away at the lead in the second quarter by scoring 18 points to Owensboro’s 12, but OHS still held a 35-30 lead going into halftime. The Red Devils held Webster at bay in the third quarter as they outscored them 12-9 to maintain a lead at 47-39, but the final quarter saw both teams mount a final push for the win. Owensboro won the scoring battle by outscoring Webster 25-20 in the final quarter to win 72-59.
The Red Devils had four players score in double digits during the game. Sanders led the team in scoring with 18 points as well as having shot 100% at the free throw line shooting 6 of 6. Keaton Hughes had the next highest points with 16. Michael Acton and Will Hume both had 14 points on the night, and Hume had 3 three-pointers as part of his total.
