Girls’ Basketball recap (Jan. 2): AHS, OHS, OCHS

Owensboro Catholic had a massive blowout victory to start the new year and the All “A” Classic off on a high note while Apollo and Owensboro both were defeated in their games. 

Henderson Co. 41, AHS 30

Apollo hosted Henderson County in their first game of 2024. Despite out-rebounding Henderson 37-29, Apollo fell 41-30. AHS trailed early after the first quarter ended 10-5. Henderson gained a 10-point lead in the second quarter to lead at halftime 26-16. The E-gals couldn’t close the gap and went on fall 41-30. 

Jennifer Lee and Jenna Dant both had 13 and 12 rebounds respectively to help prevent Henderson from extending their lead further. Lee and Dant also led the E-Gals in scoring with 12 and 11 points respectively to complete the double-double for the pair. 

Bowling Green 54, OHS 45

Owensboro were defeated on the road against Bowling Green 54-45 in a game that saw the Lady Red Devils make 9 three-pointers. OHS led early on after the first quarter ended 14-7. Bowling Green shot 5 three-pointers in the second quarter to help them take the lead from Owensboro by halftime 32-22. The Lady Red Devils kept up with Bowling Green in the second half in scoring, but it wasn’t enough to claw their way back and they were defeated 54-45.

Heleina John scored 16 points as well, having shot 4 three-pointers during the game. Abby Sapp also made 4 three-pointers as part of her 14 points on the night.

OCHS 56, Cloverport 5

Owensboro Catholic dominated their first game of the All “A” Classic in fashion as they beat Cloverport 56-5. Catholic immediately controlled the game as they shut down Cloverport from scoring a single point in the first half for a score of 35-0 at halftime. The Lady Aces cruised through the game to win 56-5. 

The Lady Aces spread out their scoring effort pretty evenly throughout their squad. Hailee Johnson had the most with 9 points, Aubrey Randolph had the next highest with 8 points, Karmin Riley and Jenna Krampe had 7 points each and Claudia Munsey and Taylor Mannahan had 6 points each as well.
