Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic both kicked off the new year with wins as Catholic began play in the 3rd Region All “A” Classic, and Owensboro took care of business at home.
OCHS 51, Hancock Co. 28
Owensboro Catholic had no trouble defeating Hancock County 51-28 in their first game of the 3rd Region All “A” Classic. Catholic commanded the game early on as they only allowed Hancock 1 point in the first quarter and had a 14-1 lead going into the second quarter. OCHS outscored Hancock County in every quarter and went on to win 51-28.
Leading the scoring for the Aces was Luke Beickman with 15 points along with 3 three-pointers. Following behind was Waryn Ebelhar with 11 points.
OHS 81, Breckinridge 65
Owensboro battled it out at home against Breckinridge in a game that saw the Red Devils secure a 81-65 win at home. Both teams came out of the gate with high intensity on offense as the first quarter ended 21-20 with OHS leading. OHS held back Breckinridge for the remainder of the game and kept a solid lead throughout each quarter. They extended their lead in the second quarter by outscoring Breckinridge 20-13 to lead 41-33 at halftime. Owensboro’s offense did not let up in the second half as they curbed Breckinridges’ hopes of clawing back. The final score was 81-65.
The Red Devils had four players score in double digits to help overwhelm Breckinridge. Keaton Hughes led the team with 21 points. Dayshaun Sanders followed close behind with 19 points along with 3 three-pointers. Michael Acton and Will Rickard both had 14 points during the game as well.
