Girls’ Basketball recap (Dec. 29): DCHS, OHS, THS

Daviess County and Owensboro finished play in the Tonya Wells Christmas Classic while Trinity played on the road at Caldwell County. 

Franklin-Simpson 67, DCHS 58

Daviess County lost their final game in the Tonya Wells Christmas Classic 67-58 against Franklin-Simpson. DC started the game out with a 22-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Panthers had a 10-point lead going into halftime at 37-27. Franklin-Simpson held DCHS to only 11 points in the third quarter to catch up and take a 1-point lead at 49-48. In the final quarter, Franklin-Simpson outscored DC 18-10 to close out the game at 67-58 in favor of Franklin-Simpson.

Leading the scoring for the Lady Panthers was Lily Hoagland and Kennedy Lane with 22 and 21 points respectively. Zoey Beehn scored 10 points as well. 

OHS 66, Union Co. 22

Owensboro closed out the Tonya Wells Christmas Classic with a bang as they had a blowout 66-22 over Union County. OHS commanded the game from the start as they had a 17-2 at the end of the first quarter. Owensboro had no trouble extending their lead and closing out the game  66-22. 

Leading the Lady Red Devils in scoring was A’Lyrica Hughes and Shalyn Sprinkles with 17 points each. Following behind was Unique Carter-Swanagan with 12 points. 

Caldwell Co. 68, THS 45

Trinity had a 68-45 defeat on the road against Caldwell County. The score was close at 11-9 at the end of the first quarter with Trinity trailing slightly. Caldwell extended their lead in the second quarter by outscoring Trinity 21-11 to go into halftime 32-20. Trinity kept up on the scoring front, but not enough to close the gap and they lost 68-45.

Leading the Lady Raiders in scoring was Kenzie McDowell with 15 points. Sarah Payne and Ella Morris followed behind with 10 points each.
