Owensboro began the Henderson Chevrolet, Buick, GMC Classic with a rough start while Daviess County and Apollo continued play in their respective tournaments.
Northwest (Clarksville), TN 56, AHS 43
Apollo fell to Northwest (Clarksville), TN 56-43 in their second game of H&H Holiday Hoopfest.
Kobe Kelly led the Eagles in scoring with 16 points. Following behind in points was Eli Williams with 10 points. Landon Henning also finished the game with an impressive 16 rebounds and 7 blocks along with 5 points.
DCHS 61, Franklin-Simpson 55
Daviess County won their second match in the FB&T Classic after a big push in the second half helped them overtake Franklin-Simpson 61-55. They started the game off trailing 19-14. DCHS kept up with Franklin-Simpson in scoring to be behind by just 3 at halftime at 32-29. The Panthers took the lead in the third quarter for a 48-45 scoreline going into the final quarter. They held off Franklin-Simpson by outsourcing them 14-10 in the final quarter to win 61-55.
Leading the Panthers in scoring was Jonathan Moss with 22 points. Gage Phelps had the next highest points with 15.
Henry Clay 73, OHS 61
Owensboro put up a fight trying to claw back into the game, but they fell short against Henry Clay 73-61. Owensboro led at the end of the first quarter 13-12. Henry Clay then took the lead in the second quarter after outscoring OHS 21-13 to go into halftime 33-26. A scoring battle ensued in the third quarter as both teams put up 23 points in the third quarter. Owensboro couldn’t close the gap in the final quarter and were defeated 73-61.
Leading the Red Devils in scoring was Will Hume with all 18 of his points coming from his 6 made three-pointers. Dayshaun Sanders and Keaton Hughes both had 16 points during the game as well.
