Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic both capped off their respective tournaments with wins while Owensboro suffered a close defeat.
DCHS 77, Western KY Trailblazers 61
Daviess County had a comfortable 77-61 win over the Western KY Trailblazers for their final game in the Rafferty’s Caveland Classic. The game started off pretty evenly as the first quarter ended 21-20 in favor of the Trailblazers. The second quarter ended just as close as both teams scored 16 points in the quarter to go into halftime 37-36 with the Trailblazers up by 1. The Panthers gained the lead in the third quarter after outscoring the Trailblazers 16-9. They extended their lead with a big offensive push in the fourth quarter that saw DCHS score 25 in the quarter to win 77-61.
Gage Phelps had 22 points to lead the Panthers in scoring. Ayden Ayer had 3 three-pointers as part of his 15 points on the night. Jonathan Mos scored 13, and DeAaron Watkins scored 12 as well.
South Warren 62, OHS 60
For their final game in the BCBS Holiday Classic, Owensboro had three players score in double digits in their close 62-60 defeat against South Warren. Owensboro started the game off with a 21-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. OHS maintained their lead into halftime at 31-25. South Warren outscored OHS 21-16 in the third quarter to close the gap to 46-47. Despite making 3 three-pointers in the final quarter to help try and take the lead, Owensboro lost by a single bucket 62-60.
Keaton Hughes and Dayshaun Sanders both scored 17 points to lead the Red Devils in scoring. Will Hume had 14 points on the night as well.
Owensboro Catholic 78, Hopkinsville 60
Owensboro Catholic took down Hopkinsville 78-60 in their final game of the Maroons Shootout. The Aces started with an early 18-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. They had no trouble maintaining and building on their lead and won 78-60.
Leading the Aces in scoring was Luke Beickman and Tutt Carrico who both had 20+ point performances. Beickman led the team with 24 points as well as shooting 8 of 8 on free throws. Carrico had the second most points with 20. Waryn Ebelhar had 14 points along with 4 three-pointers throughout the game.
