Boys’ Basketball recap (Dec. 21): DCHS, OHS, OCHS

Daviess County and Owensboro both got wins on the day while Owensboro Catholic suffered a defeat in their respective tournaments.

DCHS 63, Bethlehem 45

Daviess County had a comfortable 63-45 win over Bethlehem for their second game in the Rafferty’s Caveland Classic. DCHS started the game off trailing 18-12 by the end of the first quarter. They took the lead in the second quarter after outscoring Bethlehem 19-10 to take the lead 31-24. They held onto their lead and ran away with it in the final quarter to win 63-45.

Leading the Panthers in scoring was Jaxon Brown with 19 points and shot 5 of 6 from the free throw line. Following behind in scoring was Jonathan Moss with 14 points. DeAaron Watkins had 11 points during the game as well. 

OHS

Owensboro played two games as part of the BCBS Holiday Classic. They won their first game against Russellville in a blowout 77-35 win. They were narrowly defeated 72-68 by Warren East in their second game. 

Owensboro trailed for most of the game against Warren East heading into the final quarter. They started in a 10 point deficit after the first quarter saw them down 23-13. Warren held onto their lead until OHS made a final push in the fourth quarter. The Red Devils outscored Warren East 25-18 in the final quarter, but it was not enough to take the lead before the clock ran out with the score at 72-68.

Across both games, Dayshaun Sanders led the Red Devils in scoring with 42 points total. Following behind in scoring was Keaton Hughes and Michael Acton with 22 and 21 points respectively. 

Madisonville-North Hopkins 70, OCHS 67

Owensboro Catholic lost an overtime battle against Madisonville for their second game in the Maroons Shootout. Catholic led early in the game at 16-14 at the end of the first quarter. They lost the lead in the second half after Madisonville outscored them 23-12 to go into halftime with a 37-28 lead. The Aces closed the gap to 45-48 in the third quarter thanks to two three-pointers from Luke Beickman and one from Waryn Ebelhar. The final quarter ended in a 58-58 stalemate with the help of a key three-pointer from Tutt Carrico. Madisonville won in OT 70-67 with a little push by their 6 made free throws in the period.

Leading the Aces in scoring was Beickman with a big 29-point performance. Beickman also led the game in three-pointers with 5. Following behind on the stat sheet was Ebelhar with 14 points and 2 three-pointers on the night.
