Boys’ Basketball recap (Dec. 19): AHS, THS

Apollo and Trinity played their first two games in the Commonwealth Rolled Products Christmas Classic. The two faced off against each other in one game before they both took on Evansville Day for their second games.

AHS 

Apollo defeated Trinity 70-50 in their first game of the tournament. 

The game started out evenly as Apollo only had a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter at 12-11. THS stayed neck and neck with AHS to tie the score up at 24-24 by halftime. The Eagles kicked it into high gear in the second half to take the lead and run away with it. Four three-pointers from AHS helped them take the lead at the end of the third quarter at 48-40. They outscored THS 22-10 in the final quarter to close out the game at 70-55. 

Apollo beat Evansville Day in their second match 64-38. To start out, the Eagles gained a 12-9 point lead at the end of the first quarter. The game came to a stalemate at halftime with a score of 20-20. Apollo’s offense then put up 22 points in the third quarter to take the lead. They extended their lead in the final quarter to win at 64-38.The game was highlighted by Tate Powers having 5 made -three pointers in his 19-point performance. 

Across both games, Kobe Kelly led the Eagles in scoring with 37 total points. Powers followed behind with 27 points and 6 made three-pointers. 

THS

Trinity lost their first match 70-50 to Apollo. In their second match, they lost a high-scoring battle to Evansville Day in a match that ended 86-74. Trinity were down by just 2 points at the end of the first quarter. Evansville Day extended their lead and held a grip on the rest of the game. Trinity were not far behind on the offensive end as this is their second highest point total this season, and Hayden Aull put up a 25-point performance as well as 5 three-pointers.

Aull led the Raiders in scoring with 30 points across both games. J.P. Payne followed behind in scoring with 22 points, 16 of which came from the match against Apollo which was the highest on the team.
