The Broadway musical “Little Women” will open its national tour in Owensboro on Saturday after spending the this week using the RiverPark Center as a teching site.

The show begins at 2 p.m. and tickets can be purchased here. The traveling show is put on by New York City-based Big League Productions Inc.

According to their website: “Produced nationally and internationally, ‘Little Women’ has been praised by critics for its ambition in bringing the timeless, captivating story to vivid musical life on stage. Based on Louisa May Alcott’s life, ‘Little Women’ follows the adventures of sisters Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March, each determined to live life on her own terms. ‘Little Women’ embodies the complete theatrical experience, leaving audiences filled with a sense of adventure, joy, heartache, and a lifting of the spirit. The powerful score soars with the sounds of personal discovery, heartbreak, hope, and everlasting love – the sounds of a young America finding its voice.”

This marks the third time the production company has used Owensboro as a teching site.

The process of teching a show involves getting every aspect of production in line before the first live performance. It is often the first time that cast and crew meet, allowing the show to begin to form.

“Teching a show is where the real magic happens. The show leaves the four-wall fluorescent light studio in Times Square and joins with sets, costumes, lights, sound, video, orchestra, and literally from cue to cue the show is created, in real time,” said Donna Fiegel, True Marketing Public Relations Director. “Each moment a light cue changes, a mic comes on, that has to be strategized and programmed, and repeatable.”

After Owensboro, the show will travel all over the country, including some major cities. See the full schedule here. Fiegel said it’s great to be able to kick things off in Owensboro.

“The Riverpark Center is a great theatre to work in,” she said. “It’s far enough away from the bustle of bigger cities but with a downtown full of charm. It’s a great work environment to create in. The crew and staff are terrific, and they always bend over backward to help us bring our productions to life and get our work down as a team.”
