Boys’ Basketball recap (Dec. 12): AHS, DCHS, OHS

Daviess County and Owensboro both had dominant wins while Apollo suffered a close defeat. 

McLean County 59, AHS 54

Apollo fell to McLean 59-54 in a close defeat. The Eagles trailed for most of the game, but then mounted a big scoring effort in the final quarter to close the gap. They outscored McLean 26 points to 19 points in the final quarter. Time wasn’t on their side, as they just fell short by five points and lost 59-54. 

Leading the Eagles in scoring was Tate Powers and Max Johnson with 11 points each. The team finished the match with 100% FT% shooting 10 out of 10 as a team. 

DCHS 63, Hancock County 28 

Daviess County had a blowout 63-28 win over Hancock County. Daviess County started the game behind by a single point by the end of the first quarter 14-13. They took the lead by halftime at 23-16. They ran away with the lead by outsourcing Hancock in the third quarter 23-7. They held their big lead until the end of the game with a score of 63-28.

Leading the team in scoring was Gage Phelps with 16 points. Following behind was DeAaron Watkins with 12 points each. Watkins finished the game with 100% FT% shooting 6 of 6. 

OHS 55, Muhlenberg 36

Owensboro had a comfortable 55-36 victory over former rivals Muhlenberg. Owensboro led the game starting out by having a 18-11 lead. They extended their lead to 30-17 at halftime. In the third quarter Muhlenberg closed the gap to just three points at 37-34 by outscoring Owensboro 17-77 in the quarter. Owensboro played tight defense to hold Muhlenberg to a single bucket scored in the final quarter. OHS ran away with the lead and closed out the game 55-36. 

Keaton Hughes led the Red Devils in scoring with 17 points. Two other players had double digit points as well. Dayshaun Sanders scored 14 points with most of them coming in the final quarter, and Micheal Acton had 11 points.
