Owensboro Volleyball’s Kiersten Taylor is taking her career to the next level after signing to play for Kentucky Wesleyan. Taylor recently finished her final high school volleyball season that saw her help make school history.

The Lady Red Devils may have lost the district championship to a tough Owensboro Catholic team, but playing the championship was enough to put them through to the regional tournament for the first time in the program’s history. Not only did they play in regionals, but they bagged a win as well after beating Grayson County 3-1.

Taylor played a big roll on Owensboro’s offense as she was second in the team in kills with 273 on the season as well as recording 48 service aces. Taylor says getting the opportunity to be a college athlete is surreal as she has been waiting for this moment since she was in the 6th grade.

“It feels surreal, like it’s crazy,” she said. “Like I’ve been waiting for this moment since like 6th grade, and it’s finally here which is insane. I’m ready. I’ve been working for it forever.”

Taylor said she chose KWC not just because it is close to home, but because her familial ties to the school have made it feel like a second home.

“It really felt like home,” she said. “I’ve grown up here, and my dad went to school there. My mom just started working there recently, so I’m there a lot. It kinda just feels like a second home.”

As she leaves behind high school athletics, Taylor said she will miss her teammates the most out of anything.

“I’ll really miss the bond that I’ve created with my team,” she said. “Like I said in my speech, they weren’t just my teammates, they were really like my family. I’ve been playing with them since 6th grade, and I just love them individually so much.”
