A portion of the trails at Panther Creek Park will be closed for renovations over the next few months as the County replaces walkways and makes repairs.

The construction begins at the Nature Lair Gazebo and continues to the Picnic Shelter by the main parking lot. It is expected to reopen in Spring 2024.

Daviess County Public Works is handling the repairs. County Parks & Recreation Director Ross Leigh said this is the third year for renovations and spans the longest portion of the trails yet.

“They started a couple of years ago and they’ve done one section at a time. This is the largest and longest section that they’ve worked on since they started,” Leigh said.

Leigh said that around this time next year, the County will close off the final path to finish renovations. Renovations are done at this time of year for convenience, Leigh said.

“It makes it to where they can be able to get in and out and not really mess up any kind of flow with regards to the general public,” Leigh said.

County Treasurer Jordan Johnson said that the total ticket price for this portion has yet to be concluded. As the project is being completed by County Public Works, it did not go out for bid, and the final price will be determined once renovations are complete.
