Letter to the Editor

Dear Citizens of Owensboro, friends, current students, and alumnae of Kentucky Wesleyan College:

I grew up in a small “college town” in Texas, population 12,000-ish. Every one of my public school classmates were sons and daughters in a family where at least one parent worked for the college.

My hometown school’s values were solid and upheld. That means the entire community’s values were
reinforced. Thankfully, my college never betrayed us. Yes, that is what is happening on the KWC
campus, you are being betrayed.

As a remote, Adjunct Professor for KWC I had an excellent track record. I took the position as I had a friend and colleague already there. We have similar Christian values, I grew up a Methodist and I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with my fine, young, eager students. Although I live and work from Texas, I witnessed the changing culture at KWC when the current administration was ushered in. The point is…I can feel your pain! I would submit your feelings are disappointment, embarrassment, and, in general, “how could they?” During this time, do not buy any excuse they have to offer. As usual, plenty of colleges and universities are doing just fine, some are even expanding.

Please understand, this is not where it will stop. The most recent announcement by the KWC
administration is only the beginning. The worst part of what you have seen published is that it is not the truth. Oh, it is true on the surface, but it’s not the entire story. You know the term “lying by omission” –
that is what they are doing to all of us.

My memories tell me you live in a “small town”…right? Ask around, talk to each other honestly, get to the bottom of “it” before “it” tarnishes you even further. The diseased culture at KWC has already inflicted many wounds. But, so far, they are not fatal. Don’t let “it” spread any further. Hold your head up. Take your pride and reputation to the town square.

May God bless us all! If I may be of any further service, let me know and thanx for reading…
