Beverly’s Hearty Slice will host its annual Halloween Spooktacular on October 20 at Kendall-Perkins Park. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and features candy, free costumes for local youth, and the group’s standard: Little Caesars pizza.
Executive Director Travis Owsley, who formed the nonprofit to honor his late mother, said some child-favorite princesses will also be in attendance thanks to Magical Memories Characters Co.
Southern Star donated $4,000 to fund the event, while Joni Autry with Halloween Havoc has donated the costumes and provided decorations.
“It’s a blessing to have the trust and support from our community,” Owsley said. “We’ve added 5 new events this year to help families and those in need. If there’s a way for us to make an impact, we’re going for it.”
Owsley said he expects a huge turnout for the event, and can’t wait to see the smiles on the kid’s faces.
“Our Halloween Bash will have a huge turnout,” he said. “I’m guessing over 200 people will attend this event, and we can’t wait. We couldn’t do this without our many volunteers and the continued support of Southern Star, and the many others who make all of this possible.”
Other upcoming events for the organization include a Thanksgiving celebration, where they will provide over 200 take-home meals and free pizza while the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra conducts a live performance. They’ll also have a big Christmas event with even more community offerings.
Owsley created Beverly’s Hearty Slice (BHS) in September 2020, dishing out pizza and other goodies in underserved areas. Rain, snow, or shine, Owsley and his teams have served the community for nearly 4 years.
Like the nonprofit’s many other events, Owsley said this is another way for them to spread positivity, celebrate diversity, and provide hope.
