Floyd "Payton" Sturgeon

Floyd “Payton” Sturgeon, age 98 of Hardinsburg, KY passed away October 10, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Ammons, KY on April 18, 1925, son of the late Laura Ann Combs and Elmer Winfield Sturgeon. Floyd was a lifelong member of English Baptist Church, where he served for many years as a deacon. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II and receiving a Purple Heart. He is one of the oldest WWII veterans in Breckinridge County and a member of the 101st Airborne Division. He was a farmer and carpenter for many years. Floyd loved nothing more than fishing with his wife, gardening and raising tomatoes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Delores Grace Sturgeon, sons Thomas Gary Sturgeon and Bruce Sturgeon, siblings Julius, Bill, C L, Russell and Abe Sturgeon, Frances Voyles and Rosie Cundiff.

Floyd is survived by his daughter Delores Carol Tucker of Hardinsburg, KY

3 grandsons: Thomas Gary Sturgeon,II of Somerset, KY; William Bradley Tucker of Nicholasville, KY and Randell Bruce Tucker of Hardinsburg, KY

1 daughter-in-law: Linda Sturgeon Smitters of Louisville, KY

Former son-in-law: Billy Randell Tucker of Rough River, KY

He loved his Lord and Savior, his country and his family and friends.

In keeping with his wishes, he will be buried in his WWII Dress Roosevelt Army Greens given to him by his grandson Randy Tucker as a Christmas gift.

Funeral services will be held at English Baptist Church on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11 AM. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Friday, 4-8 PM and Saturday from 8:30 – 10:15 AM.
