
James Mark Owen, 88, of Owensboro, died Sunday, October 1, 2023 while under the care of the Western Kentucky Veteran’s Center. Mark was born on September 18, 1935 in McLean County to the late Rollie Howard Owen and Sue Gabbert Owen. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the Army he graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan in 1961. Mark’s professional career spanned over 38 years with the YMCA. He served at over 10 locations as the Physical Director, Branch Director, and C.E.O. Mark was a devoted member of First Baptist Church and member of the Maverick Sunday School class.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jean Eaves Owen, on April 22, 2021, and a son, Hank Owen.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Thompson (Duane) and Fran Owen; a son, Phillip Owen, and three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many other loving friends and family members.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. EST on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, 2501 N. Dixie Blvd, Radcliff, KY 40160. James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
