
On July 8, 1931, Frank Allen List was born in Pleasureville, KY and would serve others throughout his life over the next 92 years. He went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 23, 2023. His Lord said unto him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” Matthew 25:23
He graduated from Pleasureville High School in 1949 and moved to Winchester, KY to attend Kentucky Wesleyan College. When KWC moved to Owensboro, he followed, graduating from KWC in 1953.
In Owensboro, he met his wife Louetta Krahwinkel and they married in January 1953. They were married for 62 years before she passed in 2015. Frank is survived by his current wife, Betsy Sumner List. Frank and Lou had 3 children, Jon Kirtley List, Kandi List Gilbreath (David), and Krystal List Phelps (Jeff); eight grandchildren, Allen List (Samantha), Christian List, Walter Bailey Chenault, Maddie Craft (Johnathan) , Shelby Phelps, Allie Phelps, and Gage Phelps and Noah Gilbreath; and two great-grandchildren, Lily List and James Ryan List. Frank is also survived by Betsy’s children, Patty Wells (Andy) and Sherry Williams (Brian).
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lou List; his parents, Frank Smith List and Anna Maude Graves List; daughter-in-law, Vicki Henry List; and his beloved dog, George.
Frank spent 42 years in education starting his career at Snyder School where he taught middle school social studies and coached basketball. After Snyder, he went to Utica High School where he also coached basketball. After leaving Utica, he went to DCHS where he was Assistant Principal. He left his greatest legacy at Apollo High school, where he was the principal from 1969-1984. He touched the lives of so many students. He was known for always carrying his “yard stick”, his shoes with taps on the heels so you could hear him approaching, and knowing every student’s name. After leaving Apollo, he went to be an Assistant Superintendent for Daviess County Public Schools. Upon retirement, he went to work at James H. Davis Funeral Home and used his social skills to talk with everyone and immediately help them find a friend during a difficult time.
Frank was an avid car lover and auction connoisseur. Friends will remember him on his lawn mower in the yard at Pettit. You could usually find Frank at a car show, auction, or drinking coffee at numerous restaurants in town. He was a member of the Owensboro Antique and Classic Auto Club and had numerous antiques cars throughout his life time.
He was a member of Panther Creek Baptist Church, where he also served as a Deacon and taught a Sunday School class for over 50 years.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Panther Creek Baptist Church, 7146 US Hwy 431, in Owensboro. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3:00pm until 7:00pm at James H Davis Funeral Home & Crematory and on Wednesday from 9:00am until 10:00am at Panther Creek Baptist Church.
