The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office was presented with 30 advanced trauma kits on Tuesday. The life-saving kits will be placed in patrol vehicles for use in emergency situations when deputies are first to arrive on the scene.
The kits were provided by Sheep Dog Impact and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and were presented during the Kentucky Sheriff’s Association annual conference at the Owensboro Convention Center.
Daviess County Sheriff Brad Youngman said he was grateful to receive the kits.
“We are grateful for these organizations’ commitment to our efforts to serve and protect,” he said. “Due to the rural nature of sheriff’s work, deputies are often the first on scene when someone has suffered a traumatic injury. While we benefit greatly from our firefighters, both paid and volunteer, as well as the ambulance service, when we are first to arrive, having the right equipment will mean the difference between life and death.”
Youngman thanked DCSO Captain Duane Harper, Patrol Division Commander for his efforts in ensuring that each patrol vehicle has the equipment it needs to face any situation.
Sheep Dog Impact Assistance (SDIA) is a national nonprofit founded and headquartered in Rogers, Arkansas, that provides charitable services benefiting the overall well-being of veterans, law enforcement, fire and rescue, and EMS personnel. SDIA member Blaine Hagins said their organization hopes the kits never have to be used, but the goal of providing trauma kits is to assist in saving lives in the Commonwealth.
