Alix Hamilton had been researching business opportunities for a while before launching Blue Laundry Co., a mobile laundry service provider. Hamilton established the company this past April and hasn’t looked back, steadily growing her customer base.
Hamilton has never considered doing laundry a chore and thought it was the perfect entry point into the business world. She initially wanted to open a laundry mat but arrived at the mobile laundry service because it’s unique to the community and offers lower overhead costs.
“I don’t think there’s a service like this in town,” Hamilton said. “It makes life easier for busy people who simply need help with the chore. It’s also a job I can do while I stay home with my kids and earn extra income for my family.”
Hamilton is originally from the Chicago area, relocating to Owensboro in 2015. She takes pride in being a woman-owned small business and said the support from the community has been beyond compare.
“I’ve seen several women in this community begin as small businesses, and Owensboro has really gotten behind them and made them successful,” she said. “It’s encouraging to see other small businesses grow and flourish.”
Blue Laundry Co. utilizes hypoallergenic, fragrance-free detergent and stain remover. And, while Hamilton can’t guarantee stain removal, she remains diligent in removing even the toughest stains at no additional cost to the client.
Hamilton offers one-time services, typically used by folks returning from vacation, remodeling or repairing their home, or whose laundry machine needs repair. The one-time service costs $1.80 per pound.
Memberships cost $1.40 per pound for weekly services, $1.50 per pound for biweekly, and $1.60 per pound for monthly services. The company also offers line drying at no additional cost.
Hamilton is working to partner with local nonprofit women’s shelters to provide her services for free.

“I see Owensboro as a place where people support small businesses – that’s why the logo is the blue bridge and the washing machine,” Hamilton said. “It’s a great community where everyone encourages one another.”
