Construction is underway for the Rock N’ Roll Sushi and Slim Chickens restaurants, both of which will be located in front of the former Texas Gas building on Frederica Street.

Owensboro Times was the first to report earlier this year about both locations opening new locations. In May, a representative for Slim Chickens confirmed the restaurant planned to break ground this fall but at the time they had not announced an opening date. In June, Rock N’ Roll Sushi updated its website to show that an Owensboro location was coming soon to 3750 Frederica Street.

On June 14, following the OT story about the sushi restaurant, Gulfstream Commercial Services released a map of the upcoming development at The Shoppes at 3800 Frederica (the former Texas Gas property).

Construction of a new branch for Heritage Federal Credit Union is well underway at the corner of Frederica Street and Tamarack Road. Slim Chickens will be a standalone building on the south of the credit union. Rock N’ Roll Sushi will be located in a three-unit building that will stand between Slim Chickens and Azzip Pizza.

Rock N’ Roll Sushi’s menu includes classic sushi rolls in addition to “Headliners,” as well as other food options such as shrimp, lobster, and miso soup. The restaurant claims to be the original American-style Sushi restaurant that combines rock ‘n’ roll music with big, bold, and loud flavors, according to their website. The restaurant was founded in 2010 in Mobile, Alabama, and has since grown to more than 50 locations across the southeast United States.

Slim Chickens specializes in chicken and in addition to traditional sides such as fries or macaroni, they offer southern sides including potato salad, fried okra, fried pickles, and fried mushrooms. Slim Chickens is owned by Houchens Industries, a Bowling Green-based, employee-owned conglomerate. Houchens owns more than 42 Slim Chickens franchises.
