Governor Matt Bevin announced his intention to run for re-election.

Governor Matt Bevin announced Friday that he would be running for re-election in the 2019 Kentucky gubernatorial election in November.

“I am indeed going to file to run,” Bevin said. “But the question is who am I going to run with going forward?”

Bevin said, looking forward, there were choices to be made in 2019.

“When people look at the governor’s race there are very distinct choices they are going to have,” Bevin said. “If you look at what’s being offered up on the other side of the equation — it’s a lot of recycled names. A lot of ‘has been’ politically. A lot of people who are part of what has ailed us on many respects. So much of what has kept Kentucky back is now offering itself forward as a chance to return backwards. I am proposing in this race an opportunity to move forward.”

The proposal Bevin was referring to included the introduction of his new running mate for lieutenant governor, Senator Ralph Alvarado. Alvarado currently serves in the State Senate for the 28th district representing Clark, Montgomery and northern Fayette counties.

“I am honored and humbled to be here today,” Alvarado said. “I’m humbled that Governor Bevin has even considered me and has asked me to help be his running mate to carry on I think the accomplishments we’ve done for the last three years in this state.”

Alvarado voiced his desire to continue on the path of economic advancement and strength in job creation.

“We want to get Kentucky to be on the map to be top 5 in all the most important economic categories,” Alvarado said. “I am looking forward to the campaign ahead to let people know the accomplishments we’ve done, the things we want to get accomplished going forward in the state of Kentucky. We want to be the premier location for job creation, the premier location where families want to come and live and experience life and to show the rest of the country what Kentucky is about.”
