Volleyball recap (Aug 18, 19): Apollo Summer Slam

AHS hosted the Apollo Summer Slam on August 18th and 19th, and Owensboro schools competed across multiple matches against multiple visiting schools from across KHSAA, in Tennessee and in Indiana. Here are the results from the competition by school: 

AHS

Host AHS played in two matches in the opening day of play against Mclean County and University Heights. AHS won both matches beating McClean 2-0 and University Heights 2-1. 

AHS played four games on the second day of the tournament winning two and losing two. AHS beat Nelson County 2-1, and Thomas Nelson 2-0. AHS fell to Bullitt East 1-2, and THS 0-2. 

AHS cumulative stat leaders from the tournament include:

  • Ahalia Ramirez: 12 aces, three kills, one block,105 assists, 28 digs
  • Jennifer lee: 41 kills, 17 blocks
  • Kelsey Dickinson: four aces, 67 digs

DCHS

DCHS played two games on opening day, winning one and losing the other. They beat Paducah Tilghman 2-0 and lost to Central Hardin 0-2. 

On the second day of play, DCHS played four games, winning two and losing the other two. DCHS were victorious over Russell County 1-0 on a forfeit, and Grayson County 2-1. 

DCHS cumulative stat leaders include:

  • Lauren Jean: 28 kills, 47 digs
  • Kayla Jones: 66 assists, 35 digs, 14 blocks
  • Keleigh Payne: 22 kills, 6 blocks, 27 digs

OHS

OHS played both of their opening day games against Muhlenberg County. OHS lost the first match 1-2, but won the next match 2-0. 

On the second day, OHS played four games, winning one game and losing three. OHS beat Evansville Harrison 2-0, but lost to North East Tennessee 1-2, Grayson 0-2 and South Oldham 1-2.

OHS cumulative stat leaders from the tournament include: 

  • Addie Travis: 46 kills, eight blocks, 23 digs, 12 aces
  • Ava Fincher: 92 assists, 18 kills, eight blocks, 20 digs, eight aces,
  • Anna Travis: 34 assists, six kills, three blocks, 15 digs, 14 aces

THS

THS played two games on the opening day, winning one and losing the other. THS beat Madisonville North-Hopkins 2-0, but lost to Boyd County 0-2. 

On the second day of play, THS played four games, winning three of them and losing the final match. THS beat Allen County-Scottsville 2-0, South Warren 2-0 and AHS 2-0. THS fell to South Oldham with a 2-1 score.

THS cumulative stat leaders for the tournament include: 

  • Hannah Nash: 44 kills, 25 digs, four blocks
  • Kenzie McDowell: 95 assists, 3 kills, 11 aces, 23 digs
  • Caroline Hall: 43 digs, three aces, 14 assists
