Owensboro High School has announced Pat Hume and Kip Walters as the new boys’ and girls’ golf coaches. Hume will lead the boys’ team and Walters will lead the girls’.

“We are very excited about having these gentlemen back in the coaching ranks at OHS,” said athletic director Todd Harper. “Both have a great history of coaching in Owensboro and we’re thankful to have them lead our golf programs.”

Hume began his coaching career as the head golf coach for Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1993. He also guided the Daviess County High School boys’ varsity basketball team from 2004-2015.

“I look forward to continuing to build on the tradition of the OHS boys’ golf program,” Hume said. “I also hope to create a love for the great game of golf through the teaching of the rules, skills and etiquette needed to play the game for a lifetime.”

Walters is a 17-year veteran of the Owensboro Public School system as a teacher at Owensboro Middle School North and is no stranger to coaching. He served as an assistant baseball coach at OHS and Kentucky Wesleyan College, the middle school football program, the middle school boys’ and girls’ basketball programs, and the OHS baseball team from 2009-2012.

“Coaching and golf are both passions of mine,” Walters said. “I am excited to work with our younger generation who may also share the same passion for golf as I do. This is a unique opportunity to hopefully build the program into something both our school and our community can be proud of. I am grateful for this opportunity and am looking forward to it.”

The 2019-20 golf season begins in July. Both the boys’ and girls’ seasons take place during the fall semester.
