Professional Bull Riding (PBR) is coming to Owensboro. On Saturday, the Owensboro Sportscenter will be the last stop for the PBR Challenger Series before the competition moves on to finals.
The Owensboro stop is being hosted by Rally Point Events, a nonprofit veteran organization aimed at raising funds for veterans and youth in the tri-state area. The group is calling the event the PBR Bulls and Ghouls, tailoring the entire event to Halloween.
RPE president and event organizer Lancy Yearby expects the top names on tour to make their way to Owensboro for the event. Yearby expects more than two million people to tune in via national television.
“We’re bringing the top-tier bull riding of the world to Owensboro,” Yearby said previously. “We’re talking João Ricardo Vieira and Bob Mitchell – it’s not your hometown rodeo or bull bash – it’s the real deal.”
Yearby said PBR typically favors larger cities, but there was just “something” about Owensboro. He said the draw was the agricultural and farming landscape the community offers.
“This is different from your typical PBR event,” he said. “All the money raised with the PBR event goes back to the community. One hundred percent of the funds will go back to Owensboro to buy shoes for kids in need as well as take care of our veterans.”
Jerry Ray Davis Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram is serving as the presenting sponsor. Davis said his inspiration for sponsoring the event was simple.
“Cowboys drive trucks. Cowboys ride bulls. So we’re the perfect fit to be the presenting sponsor for the community,” Davis said previously. “But more than anything, it’s about our community and the kids. We love to give and form partnerships in this community, and we’re always looking for more ways to provide.
