The soccer season kicked off Monday with the Apollo and Owensboro Catholic boys’ teams securing victories with impressive offensive performances.
Apollo 5, John Hardin 1
The Eagles started their season on the right foot with a home victory. Apollo got goals from junior Omid Hanafi (2), junior Astere Irunva, sophomore Jason Palacios Perez, and freshman Colton Anderson. Assists were made by Hanafi, junior Noah Crider, and senior Hayden Hill.
Owensboro Catholic 10, Butler County 0
The Aces notched a landslide victory with a shutout in their opening match. Senior Brody Martin had five goals and an assist to lead the team. Also on the scoresheet were freshman Owen Brey with two goals and an assist, sophomore Joseph Kurtz with two goals and an assist, and sophomore Gene Johnson with a goal and an assist. Senior Kaden Goetz and sophomore Luke Pfeifer each added two assists. Aces goalkeeper junior Ben Dawson had one save.
