The Owensboro Police Department continued its summer initiative “Police in the Parks” at Chautauqua Park on Thursday, with families from the nearby neighborhoods joining in on the activities.

This was the second time OPD has held the event — the first was at Dugan Best Park — and Public Information Officer Dylan Evans said its an effort to connect with the community.

“To be able to interact with all the kids today is important. We want them to know we are people just like them and they can count on us in their time of need and be comfortable with us,” Evans said.

During the event, OPD officers served hot dogs and lemonade while playing games like catch football throughout the park.

“It’s just another great way for our officers to get out in the community and connect with people we serve,” Evans said.

Evans said the program will continue throughout the summer. They will announce any future events on their Facebook Page.

In the meantime, they will also continue their Coffee with a Cop initiative to maintain conversations with the community.
