Visit Owensboro President Mark Calitri expects the Owensboro Comic and Toy Con this October to be the most-attended event ever at the Convention Center. Event organizers on Thursday announced a collaboration with Visit Owensboro where visitors who stay in designated hotels receive a complimentary ticket to the convention.
The convention will take place Oct 7-8 and offer various panels and workshops covering all things comics, cosplay, fandom, and more. All sessions will be open to both sides of the industry — both consumer and producer — to allow everyone to engage with each other and learn other interests.
Exhibitors will be selling comic books, graphic novels, toys, games, and other merchandise. There will be a cosplay contest, complete with photo opportunities. In addition, tabletop games, card games, and video games will also be available during the convention.
Event Owner Jarrod Greer said that the convention will address every aspect of what people want in a pop culture event.
“The event will include celebrities, amazing creators, cosplay, gaming, and much more,” Greer said previously. “After successful events in Lexington and Huntington, we are extremely excited to come to Owensboro.”
Greer made the announcement about the opportunity for free admission to the convention.
“To secure your free weekend badge, simply reserve a room within the convention block at the Holiday Inn Riverfront and Hampton Inn Waterfront,” he said. “Upon your arrival and check-in, each night of your stay will entitle you to one complimentary convention badge.”
Greer previously said that the Lexington Comic and Toy Con created a huge economic impact for the city and was one of the largest room night-producing events. He hopes the Owensboro Comic and Toy Con can do the same.
“Jarrod Greer has a proven track record of producing large, successful Comic Cons. We’re looking forward to him bringing that success to Owensboro. I anticipate this Comic Con being the largest, most-attended event ever to be held at the Owensboro Convention Center,” Calitri said.
