The Owensboro Police Department is accepting applications for the 2023 Citizen Police Academy, where citizens will learn insight on how police officers perform their daily duties.
The Academy begins August 3 and includes classes every Thursday for the next 10 weeks.
Participants will receive a hands-on experience learning about different departments including the Patrol Operations, Training, Criminal Investigations, Narcotics, Hazardous Device Unit, Unmanned Aircraft Systems Unit, K-9, Emergency Response Team, Firearms Demonstration, and the Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch.
“It’s a great opportunity for citizens to get an up-close and personal experience of the operations of the Owensboro Police Department,” said OPD Public Information Officer Dylan Evans.
OPD said the goal of the Citizen Police Academy is to encourage better communication between the citizens of Owensboro and local police officers through education and positive interaction.
The classes are limited to 25 attendees per year and there is no cost to enroll in the program. All interested parties are asked to complete an application here.
