Daviess County’s high school dance team has a familiar face that will be leading the strong program in its upcoming season, as Jaclyn Simpson is now at the helm of the dance team.

Simpson is no stranger to the red and white faithful, having danced for Daviess County in high school for three years before joining the cheer team for her senior season in 2018-19. Being able to be the head coach of the program has been a dream of hers, so when the opportunity arose she jumped at it.

“I was this assistant coach last year,” Simpson said. “When Kendal Connor reached out I immediately said yes. When she told me she decided she’s going to step down, I knew immediately I could step in her place. She taught me so much last year, and I knew with the support system I have that I could easily transition into this role.”

It’s no secret that the standard are high for Daviess County’s dance team and Simpson wholeheartedly plans to make sure that is the case for the foreseeable future.

“I’m looking forward most to continuing the high standards this program has,” Simpson said. “Kendal and Debbie Connor built the program to become this extraordinary team each year where they have won region, state, and national titles and I plan to keep on doing just that.”

While Simpson is plenty busy—being a mom to a three-month old while planning to graduate from nursing school in December and start as a registered nurse at Owensboro Health shortly after—with her family and Tommy Booker as her strong support system by her side, she is thrilled to help Daviess County dancers be the best versions of themselves on and off the floor.

“I want to instill confidence in their character on the dance floor and in life,” Simpson said. “I believe a good coach sets up their team to not only do well in the sport, but teaches them how to do well in life.”
