More than 300 community members young and old gathered on the Daviess County Courthouse lawn Thursday to participate in the 72nd Annual National Day of Prayer.

The event started with “A Circle of Good News” at 11:30 a.m, when attendees read aloud pre-assigned Bible verses so that by the end of a 20-minute period the entire Bible had been read.

The event continued as a prayer/worship service that lasted until just after 1 p.m.

After songs of worship from church leaders, the Daviess County High School Color Guard presented the colors while Gold and Blue Star Parent Cathy Mullins led attendees in singing the National Anthem.

This year’s testimony was given by Codie Leath, whose husband died in December 2021 after a 4-year battle with brain cancer. Leath, who has four children, spoke about “what the Lord did in our life during that time,” detailing how the family leaned on one another, the community, and God.

The rest of the service included prayers from Pastor Jonathan Bonar (on church/repentance); Pastor John Fowler (on spiritual warfare/righteousness); Pastor Tim Hall (on government/military); Maria Kelly (on business); Grace Christian Academy Head of School Dr. Chris Holmes (on education); and Barry Withersppon (on media).

More photos from the event can be viewed here. Those who want to watch a recording of the event can do so here.
