Susie and Bill Tyler honored for efforts at Botanical Garden with display at Independence Bank

In celebrating their 30th anniversary, the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden paid thanks to founders Susie and Bill Tyler by partnering with Independence Bank to create a display honoring the couple’s legacy.

“This is just to honor them for their 30 years of dedication to creating a beautiful place in the Botanical Gardens,” said Dorothy Reid, Display Designer for Independence Bank.

Reid, who does the designing for all of the bank’s locations throughout the commonwealth, said the Tyler display has memorabilia that was collected over the years.

The Tylers were surprised as they walked into Independence Square.

“It’s been such an honor for us to have the opportunity to serve our community, and we think the Botanical Garden is a great way to do it,” Bill said.

In addition to photographs, a portrait styled after Grant Wood’s American Gothic which portrayed the Tylers, which will remain at the bank’s entrance for 8 weeks as part of the usual rotation cycle.

Botanical Garden Executive Director Laurna Strehl said it’s important to showcase the work the Tylers have put into one of the pillars of the community.

“What they have given is priceless. They given so much of their time and talent and continue to do so,” Strehl said. “Its an exciting time right now, and I’m glad [the Tylers] are still a part of it, and I hope we make them proud.”
