Janice Smith Pate, age 57 of Lewisport, KY passed away Thursday, March 9 2023 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky after battling lung cancer. She was born in Louisville, KY on August 2, 1965, to the late Tom and Darlene Hinton Smith Greenwood.
Jan was a Maintenance Clerk and Purchaser for Precoat Metals for 35 years. It was often stated Jan was there when they built the place and stayed every time they changed the company name. Jan enjoyed her job and loved her family and friends. Her grand-daughter Karlee stole her heart when she was born and Jan was always working or spending time with her.
Jan was also passionate about researching genealogy, the historical society and volunteered at her hometown Cloverport Museum. Jan was not afraid to take on remodeling projects. She was affectionally called “Jan the Man” by many who watched her buy, remodel and sell several houses in Cloverport, Hawesville and Lewisport. She could tear a wall out, build pantry cabinets and even move electrical outlets.
Jan is survived by her daughter, Katie Pate and grand-daughter, Karlee Pate of Lewisport, KY her twin brothers, Garry Smith (Debbie) of Cloverport, KY and Barry Smith (Kim) of Hardinsburg, KY and step dad Bill Greenwood of Hardinsburg, KY, step sisters Tina (Lewis) Crosley, Christie Hoben and step brother Sean Greenwood.
Services will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Lewisport Chapel. Jan’s family will be greeting friends on Sunday from noon until service time. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Cloverport Museum.
