A free throw by Brooklyn Daugherty with .2 seconds left in regulation helped the Daviess County girls’ basketball team overcome a nine-point deficit to force overtime, but they ultimately fell 63-60 to South Spencer (Ind.) at home Monday night.
Daugherty scored all nine of her total points in the fourth quarter and overtime to help give the Lady Panthers (0-4) a chance at their first win. South Spencer, though, went 7-for-10 from the free throw line in overtime to come away with the narrow victory.
Claire Johnson was a scoring threat throughout the night for Daviess County, hitting six 3-pointers on seven attempts to finish with a game-high 20 points.
Head coach John Kirkpatrick said Kailey Bowers was the driving motor, and she and Jersey Vanover did a good job of creating scoring opportunities for their teammates.
Bowers pulled down eight rebounds — five offensive — and scored six points, while Vanover finished with three points.
The Lady Panthers will play again Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. when they host Logan County.
Daviess County scoring: Claire Johnson (20 points), E Anderson (15 points), Brooklyn Daugherty (9 points), Kailey Bowers (6 points), Katie Mewes (4 points), Jersey Vanover (3 points), S Mason (3 points),
