Kristi Coomes and her husband Stephen started Home Inspired in Owensboro in 2005 when they were furnishing their first home. Struggling to find furniture and decor they liked without traveling to Louisville or Nashville, they decided to open a store in Owensboro and specialize in furniture, home accessories, and design services.
They began in a small 2,000-square-foot space before moving to their current location on Alvey Park Drive, just off KY 54. They boast a large, ever-evolving showroom, constantly displaying the latest items and trends.
“We sell off the floor, which is great for people who want to see different things,” Coomes said. “We also do a lot of custom business, especially with upholstery.”
Home Inspired is a premiere retailer for Rowe Furniture, which Coomes said offers great fabrics and does an excellent job of keeping up with current customer tastes.
“They also offer kid-friendly fabrics, and we like that you can have a beautiful home and live in it without being worried about it,” she said. “We understand that people purchase what ‘inspires’ them, and they want quality products – that’s what we strive to offer our customers.”
Coomes attributes the 18 years of success to the support of the community.
“Owensboro has been super supportive; we have so many great customers that are now our friends, and the repeat business and referrals make it even more inspiring for us,” she said. “As a family-owned business, we love seeing our customers at school programs or the ballpark.”
She added that they have no intentions of slowing down anytime soon. She and her team take pride in providing excellent customer service, always answering questions and guiding clients through their purchases.

“We love what we do; you definitely have to have a passion for home furnishings to stay in it for 18 years,” Coomes said. “I still love coming to work today as much as I did when we first opened the doors, probably even more now. Every day is different – we are always changing the showroom floor to give people ideas and inspire them.”
