The Lady Aces and E-gals struggled offensively in their respective losses on Monday, while Daviess County topped the Lady Raiders on the road to open up the week.
Owensboro Catholic vs Henderson County
A rough first half offensively came back to bite the Lady Aces on Monday, as they fell on the road to Henderson County 65-54.
The Lady Colonels got off to a scorching hot start, getting five threes from Grace Risley while limiting Owensboro Catholic to take a 21-11 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Aces were held to single digits in the second as well, proceeding to trail 36-19 at halftime.
Owensboro Catholic was able to turn things around in the second half offensively, as senior Maddie Hayden earned 12 points, sophomore Aubrey Randolph grabbed nine, sophomore Karmin Riley added seven, junior Hailee Johnson added five and junior Jenna Krampe added two. However, they couldn’t slow down Henderson County, as the hole was too deep to dig out of and the Lady Aces fell 65-54.
Hayden and Randolph were the only players to finish in double figures for Owensboro Catholic with 16 points each, while Johns and Riley both finished with nine. The Lady Aces fourth straight loss put them at 18-9 overall, as they will look to turn things around on Thursday against Whitefield Academy at home at 5:30 p.m.
Daviess County vs Trinity (Whitesville)
A well-balanced offensive attack led the Lady Panthers to victory on Monday, as they defeated Trinity (Whitesville) on the road 68-39.
Daviess County set the tone for the game right away, limiting the Lady Raiders to single digits while senior Adylan Ayer (nine) and sophomore Zoey Beehn (eight) combined for all but five points of a 22-9 lead after the first quarter. Trinity didn’t have much more luck in the second quarter, being held to 11 points while the Lady Panthers got a number of players involved offensively en route to a 40-20 halftime lead.
The Lady Raiders didn’t have any better luck in the second half either, as Daviess County continued to control the game on both ends to wrap up a 68-39 win. Beehn led the way with 16, while Ayer had 14 and senior Madison Spurrier had 12, with eight different Lady Panthers scoring.
Trinity was led by Aull with 12, while sophomore Kenzie McDowell was the only other player in double figures with 11. Daviess County improves to 14-15 overall with the win, while the Lady Raiders fall to 3-22 overall.
Apollo vs Breckinridge County
A rough fourth quarter offensively halted the E-gals chances of a comeback home win on Monday, as Breckinridge County got a 49-44 win.
Throughout the contest the Lady Tigers and Apollo were trading blows back and forth, but it was Breckinridge County who found themselves leading 43-39 going into the final quarter. But both teams were limited to just six points each in the fourth, with Caroline Lucas getting four of her game-leading 25 points to lead them past Apollo for the 49-44 win.
Freshman Abby Sapp led the E-gals with 15 points, while freshman Kennedy Lane and sophomore Gizelle Whitlock had 12 points each in the loss. Apollo falls to 7-21 overall with the loss, as they have a quick turnaround against Warren Central at home at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
