A strong second half on both ends of the floor led to Apollo’s demise on Friday, as the Lady Panthers bounced back to claim a 52-43 comeback in the regular season district finale.

Daviess County got off to a slow start with senior Adylan Ayer serving as the only player to score in the quarter, but they were able to hold the E-gals to single digits as well and trailed by a score of 9-8 heading into the second. The Lady Panthers’ struggles continued in the second though, as they were held to single digits once again while freshman Kennedy Lane (seven), freshman Abby Sapp (four) and junior Jennifer Lee (two) led Apollo to a 22-17 halftime lead.

The Lady Panthers didn’t let off the gas in the final quarter either, as Apollo was limited to a bucket and two free throws from Lane while Daviess County had its best quarter of the night to seal the 52-43 win and claim the No. 3 seed in the 9th District Tournament.

Ayer led all scorers on the night with 24 points, while senior Madison Spurrier chipped in 10 points and Beehn added nine as Daviess County advanced to 13-14 overall and 2-5 in district play. The Lady Panthers will get right back to action on Saturday as well, traveling to take on Elizabethtown at 5 p.m..

The E-gals were led by Lane in the loss, as she grabbed 18 points while Sapp and Lee followed with eight and six respectively. Apollo falls to 7-19 overall and 0-6 in district play with the loss, as they will look to bounce back on the road against Hopkins County Central at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
