Daviess County shines in Region 2 Swim Meet

Daviess County boys and girls swimming had strong showings at the Region 2 Swim Meet over the weekend, securing a spot at state with a pair of third place team finishes.

The Panthers posted a score of 217, finishing behind South Warren’s 291 and Bowling Green’s 380. Meanwhile, the Lady Panthers finished with a 283 behind South Warren’s 373 and Bowling Green’s 465.

On the girls side there were multiple strong performances as a team, including Nya Hammons, Ryleigh Bevil, Ella Johnson and Ellie Girten grabbing second in the 200 Yard Medley Relay (1:55.19) and the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:45.18). They also had a number of strong individual performances, including first place in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:08.15) and 3rd place (1:00.08) in the 100 yard butterfly from Ella Johnson, third in the 100 Yard Freestyle (56.77) from Ellie Girten, fourth in the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:59.97) from Kayedon Mattingly as well as fourth in the 100 Yard Backstroke.

Trevor Church was a standout on the boys side, placing second in the 50 Yard Freestyle (21.59) and the 100 Yard Freestyle (46.89), while Shiloh Summer grabbed first in the 1 mtr diving (268.60). As a team the group of Gabriel Neves, Jude Pickrell, Michael Augustine, Trevor Church earned first in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:35.81), while also grabbing third place in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay (3:38.23).

On the boys side Apollo was the only other local team to place in the top-10, finishing seventh with a 107 while placing eighth on the girls side with an 82. The Lady Aces joined that company as well, finishing seventh on the girls side with a 117.

There were also some standout performances individually during the meet, as Owensboro had Georgia Warren finish second in 1 mtr diving (196.95) and Miller Bowman who grabbed second in the 100 Yard Butterfly (54.26) and fourth in the 100 Yard Backstroke (56.90). Emmitt Brock also shined for Apollo, earning a fifth place finish in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:07.83).
