The Lady Aces and Lady Devils used balanced offensive attacks to grab wins on Tuesday, while the Lady Raiders were unable to hang on for their first win of the season against Evansville Christian.
Owensboro Catholic vs Muhlenberg County
The Lady Aces were in total control of their road matchup with Muhlenberg County on Tuesday, grabbing a dominant 75-43 lead.
Sophomore Karmin Riley kickstarted Owensboro Catholic’s offense on the night, grabbing nine points en route to a 16-14 lead by the end of the first. The defense followed suit, as the Lady Aces held the Lady Mustangs to single digits and grew their lead to 34-20 at halftime.
Owensboro Catholic didn’t slow down in the third either, with junior Hailee Johnson (10) and Riley (seven) combining for 17 of the team’s 28 to make it a 62-34 game going into the fourth. Muhlenberg County wasn’t able to crack double digits in the fourth either, as the Lady Aces closed the door on a 75-43 win.
Johnson and Riley led Owensboro Catholic with 20 points each on the night, while senior Lexie Keelin had 12 and sophomore Aubrey Randolph had 10. The Lady Aces improved to 13-3 overall with their second straight win, now hoping to keep it rolling against McCracken County on the road at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Owensboro vs Union County
Owensboro got contributions from all over on Tuesday, as eight different players scored in a 52-48 road win over Union County.
The Lady Devils had an 11-7 lead after the first, but in the second they were held to single digits themselves and went into halftime down 21-20. Owensboro bounced back in the third though, getting four points each from senior CJ Paige, juniors A’Lyrica Hughes and Lizzy Philips, while senior K’Asia Palmer added a bucket to help them build a 33-29 lead going into the fourth.
The Lady Devils were narrowly outscored in the final quarter, but it was too little too late for Union County as they lost at home 52-48. Hughes led Owensboro with 13 points, while senior Chandler Worth followed with 10.
The Lady Devils have won three straight road games and now sit at 13-5 overall, as they look to make it four straight wins in a home matchup with Hancock County at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Trinity (Whitesville) vs Evansville Christian
Despite leading through three quarters on Tuesday, Trinity didn’t have an answer for Evansville Christian late and fell 45-35.
Senior Josie Aull willed the Lady Raiders to a lead in the first quarter, scoring all of their points to take a 9-5 lead into the second. Aull added seven more in the following quarter, as she finished the first half with 16 points to put Trinity ahead of Evansville Christian 20-15.
The Lady Raiders continued to hang onto the lead coming out of the locker room, as both teams scored nine and Evansville Christian trailed 29-24. Trinity didn’t have any better luck offensively in the fourth though, being limited to single digits while Evansville Christian went off for 21 points to grab a 45-35 comeback win.
Aull was the only player to score more than six points for the Lady Raiders, finishing with 22 points in the loss. Trinity now falls to 0-13, hopeful to turn things around in a district matchup at home against Edmonson County at 6 p.m. on Friday.
