The Kentucky Wesleyan College women’s basketball team outscored Lane College in each quarter Wednesday afternoon en route to a 61-45 victory. The Panthers have now posted back-to-back wins to move back to .500 entering Thanksgiving weekend.
The Panthers first took a double-digit lead with a run in the first quarter that included 3-pointers from reigning Great Midwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball athlete of the week Shayla Wright as well as Emma Johnson.
Wesleyan held a 33-22 lead to the break as Keelie Lamb finished the first half with 12 points.
A fast break jumper midway through the third cut the Dragons’ deficit to seven, but the Panthers utilized a 10-4 run, including a three-pointer from Kaylee Clifford in the final seconds, to take a 13-point lead entering the final frame.
Lily Grimes sunk a free throw at the 6:50 mark to give Wesleyan their largest lead of the game at 17 points. Lane was unable to overcome the double-digit deficit as the Panthers held on for the 61-45 win.
Lamb led all players with 17 points, while Grimes added nine points and two assists. Johnson grabbed six rebounds.
Wesleyan scored 13 points off turnovers while recording 28 fast break points.
The Panthers open G-MAC play next weekend when they travel to Nashville, Tenn., to take on Trevecca Nazarene.
