The Owensboro Symphony will open its 57th season Saturday with Troy Quinn entering his sixth year as the director. To kick off the season, Quinn said he has chosen some striking classical works and he hopes to captivate the audience.
“I am eager to perform this program which is full of excitement, recognizable works, and is sure to showcase the Owensboro Symphony’s talented musicians,” Quinn said.
The Owensboro Symphony will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at Cannon Hall stage in the RiverPark Center.
The evening will open with Mikhail Glinka’s most popular work and beloved orchestral showpiece Overture to Ruslan and Ludmilla. Following the overture, the symphony will perform Paul Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphisis on Themes by Carl Maria von Weber. This vibrant work was an immediate hit with American audiences when it premiered in 1944, and it remains so today.
The performance will conclude with Tchaikovsky’s epic Symphony No. 4, written during a tumultuous time in the composer’s life.
Concert attendees are encouraged to join Quinn in Cannon Hall from 6:15-6:40 p.m. for a special pre-concert conversation about the opening night performance. This program, designed to enhance the concert experience, will provide insights into the music and music-makers performing on the program.
