Halloween is coming early this year, as Ghostly Productions is partnering with TD’s Tuff Decisions to host a “monster mash.”
Owensboro’s oldest and newest Halloween-centric stores will be providing discounts at their locations, and there will be a cosplay contest at Ghostly Productions from 12-7 p.m.
Ghostly Productions owner Payton Ford said said cosplays don’t have to be spooky or scary.
“It can be pretty much anything you come up with and it’s going to be seen with just as much seriousness as anything else, so everything’s welcome,” Ford said.
Ghostly Productions will also have a horror movie marathon airing all day — switching between ’80s slashers and classic Universal monster movies.
The event encourages a convention-like atmosphere where people can come in, look at different areas of the store, and just hang out. Food will not be provided, however.
Ford said Ghostly Productions tries to host events to keep the Halloween spirit alive throughout the year, saying the constant support from Owensboro has been unbelievable.
“Halloween was always my favorite time of year and always my favorite holiday. If you would have told 5-year-old me that I would be owning my own Halloween shop and was able to keep that Halloween shop open all year round, I probably wouldn’t have believed it,” Ford said.
So as the summer season goes by he anticipates that August is when things will pick up. Typically Fourth of July people start thinking about costumes for Halloween and August is when people commit to searching.
Ghostly Productions is located at 203 West 4th Street. TD’s Tuff Decisions is located at 2201 Frederica Street.
