Owensboro Catholic Schools has announced that George Powell will become the next principal of Owensboro Catholic High School, effective July 1, 2023.
“I am very humbled and honored (to have been selected)” Powell said. “I look forward to being more involved in shaping the faith and education of our youth.”
Powell has nearly 25 years of experience in the education field, including 6 as a prinicpal at Owensboro Middle School; 5 as a lead associate principal at a high school; and 6 teaching social studies and English. Powell currently serves as Director of Student Services for Owensboro Public Schools; a position he has held since 2016.
“George will make an excellent leader for OCHS,” said Keith Osborne, Chief Administrative Officer for Owensboro Catholic Schools. “His strong faith, his breadth and depth of knowledge and experience, and his passion for helping students to be successful will help advance OCHS families to even greater accomplishments! We are pleased to have the caliber of person as George follow the excellent leadership of Gates Settle.”
Powell has a Rank One in Pupil Personnel, Supervision of Instruction, and School Superintendent; Master of Arts in Education; and a Bachelor of Arts; all from Eastern Kentucky University.
Powell and his wife, Amanda, have five children and are parishioners at Parish of the Immaculate in Owensboro.
