Scott Ray has officially been named the 2018 Kentucky State Senior Player by the Kentucky Golf Association (KGA). To be eligible for this award, a player must be an amateur golfer between ages 50-59.
During the season, which runs April through October, KGA hosts 1-day events, along with specific tournaments. Players can choose to play in as many of these tournaments as they want in order to earn player points toward being named the player of the year.
“The Kentucky Amateur Points System is a comprehensive standardized points system used by the Kentucky Golf Association to track the various player standings,” according to KGA.
Last year, Ray was runner up to the senior KGA player of the year, with an 18-point difference between the two.
“It was one of my goals this year [to win the player of the year],” Ray said.
Ray practices a couple of times each week at Owensboro Country Club and also plays most weekends.
“Old golfers still like to compete,” Ray said. “We have a core group of the top 10-12 guys and we play a lot together. It’s not do-or-die.”
Ray really enjoys the competition, specifically that it is segregated by age.
“It really is a good thing that KGA does,” Ray said.
A banquet will be held on Nov. 1 at Big Springs Country Club in Louisville to honor the professional and amateur divisions and also to announce this year’s hall of fame recipients.
