Lora Wimsatt, Daviess County Public Schools Public Information Officer, was presented this week with the OV Jones Memorial Award, the top award for school public relations in the state.

The award, which recognizes “outstanding service” to the Kentucky School Public Relations Association and school public relations, was presented Tuesday during the KSPRA Spring Conference. The award is named for the late OV Jones, former superintendent of Grant County Schools and the first superintendent to join the Kentucky School Public Relations Association.

“This is such an incredible honor,” Wimsatt said. “KYSPRA has truly been a wonderful organization to be a part of throughout my career. I have had the privilege of working with so many incredible people who care deeply about public education and sharing the stories of our students throughout the state.”

Wimsatt, who is retiring at the end of the school year after more than 20 years of service to DCPS, was attending her final KYSPRA Conference and was surprised with the award by KYSPRA President Jared Revlett.

“I was absolutely in shock,” Wimsatt said. “I was not expecting this recognition at all, but I am so grateful for it. The people in School PR have been a big part of my life for so long. I have truly enjoyed the camaraderie and networking, but to be honored with this award is something special.”

Wimsatt was nominated for the award by several members of the Kentucky School Public Relations Association.

“Not only has Lora been a valuable asset to her district in Daviess County, she has been an incredible mentor to those in other districts, helping them get acclimated to their new positions and providing guidance when needed,” said Revlett. “She has helped grow the membership of our organization throughout Western Kentucky and has always been someone to rely on for advice or support when needed. She will be dearly missed by our organization, but we wish her all the best in her retirement.”
