Robert W. Bowlds

August 18, 1938 - October 5, 2018

Robert W. Bowlds, 80, of Owensboro, passed away on October 5, 2018.  He was born on August 18, 1938, in Daviess County to the late Robert Wilbur and Doreen Drury Bowlds.

Robert attended Owensboro Catholic High School and later joined the Kentucky National Guard where he served for 6 years.  He began trucking in 1955 for various companies, and in 1964, he started driving for United Parcel Service and retired after 31 years. During his trucking career, Robert logged over 4 million miles.  He founded United Coach Service and United Tours in 1984; it was here he met many basketball, race fans, and senior citizens.

Robert fought Parkinson’s Disease for over 18 years. Thankfully he was surrounded by amazing neighbors whose support allowed him to stay at home.  The family would like to especially thank Tim and Donna West, Bobby and Kelly Simmons, and his granddaughter Tiffany who acted as a caregiver.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Marleena Bowlds; a sister, Jean Leonard; and brothers, Densell and Tony Bowlds.

Survivors include his loving wife, Vicki Bowlds; children, Garry A. Bowlds (Joy), Cheryl D. Mattingly, Lori L. Cornell (Brad), and Alex Bowlds (Katie); grandchildren, Amy Bowlds, Ashley Mattingly, Whitney Williams (Jacques), Tiffany Mattingly, Erin Thomas, Nathan Thomas, and five great-grandchildren; and siblings, Wanda Crady, Marnell Bowlds (Pat), Rosemary Baker, and Margaret Ann Jones (Don).

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Western Kentucky

The funeral mass will be 10 am, Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at St. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 3 until 7:30 pm on Monday, October 8, 2018, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with prayers starting at 7:30. Visitation on Tuesday will be at Saint Jospeh and Paul Catholic Church and will begin at 8:30 am. Burial will take place in Saint Anthony Cemetery.
